January 21, 2012
• The second show of January and of Metroplex Wrestling's 2012 saw the beginning of the tournament to crown the very first MPX Prospect Champion and the rivalry between Frankie Fisher and the MPX Champion "The Headbanger" Gregory James get even more heated!
• The action started off with the first Wild Card Tag Match. In these series of matches, the winners of each tag match will go on to a battle royal at Fight To Survive on February 25th to determine the first MPX Prospect Champion. This initial contest featured "Just" James Johnson and Jason Silver taking on the former Tag Team Champions, Bling and Sting. While Johnson protested throughout the match that his opponents could not have possibly been randomly selected, he had his own issues with Jason Silver. Johnson kept arguing with Silver, which resulted in WASP and Pay Day ultimately obtaining the victory, as WASP flattened Johnson with the Sting Fling. After the match, Jason Silver attacked Johnson and dropped him with an S.D.S. (Silver's Downward Spiral), leaving the former number 1 contender to the MPX Title in tears.
• The second bout of the evening featured two men returning to MPX: The mysteriously flashy Air-Non took on the hulking giant Scott Murdoch. Air-Non attempted to use his speed and agility to his advantage, but the crushing bruiser from Waxahachie ended up tearing the smaller, masked man apart, finally pinning Air-Non after two Doctor Bombs. Afterwards, Murdoch put the MPX Locker Room on notice, saying that it was going to be his year.
• General Manager Mike Dolenz came to the ring next as he wanted to address the growing tension between Frankie Fisher and Gregory James. Under current rules, Frankie and Greg are not allowed to touch each other before their title match on February 25th, or the match is called off. Dolenz had other ways of letting the two competitors get to each other, allowing both men to Pick the other's Poison. Frankie Fisher selected "The Mind of Wrestling" JT LaMotta to take on the MPX Champion, while Greg one-upped him by putting him in a triple threat elimination match against Andy Dalton and Li Fang.
• The high flying Seph Annunaki faced Nemesis' Viktor Tadlock with Claudia in a one-on-one match next. The tension between the two partners Tadlock and Claudia was evident throughout the match, as Tadlock has been growing tired of Claudia attempting to interfere in his matches, despite her best intentions. Case in point, Claudia attempted to trip up Seph during the match, but accidentally grabbed Tadlock instead. Despite this growing angst, Tadlock ended up with the victory. The two Nemesis members continued their argument after the match ended.
• After intermission, the second Wildcard Tag Match pitted James Hawke and Six Pack Kenny Steele against Ben Wylde and Carrion Arcane. Hawke and Steele were destined to not get along, but the interesting dynamic happened with Ben and Arcane. Two weeks ago, Arcane attempted to persuade Ben Wylde to join his family – and Ben was seriously considering doing it. Throughout the match, Arcane would "coach" Ben to be more aggressive, more angry, and more vicious. Although hesitant to attack his friend James Hawke at first, Ben steadily began to accept that he would have to listen to Arcane to win the match. Kenny Steele would get the upper hand for his team though, and when Wylde went to tag Arcane in, Carrion demanded that Ben learn a lesson and left him in there to take the loss. Kenny Steele and James Hawke advanced to the Prospect Champion Battle Royal.
• The first Pick Your Poison match was next as Frankie Fisher faced Li Fang and Andy Dalton in a triple threat elimination match. The mysterious woman who appeared to be scouting talent at the last show was again present at ringside, and as the match progressed, the MPX Champion himself came out to observe the match and get into Frankie's head. The match was fairly evenly contested, but Li Fang found himself to be the first eliminated, something that drew the attention and interest of the mysterious woman ringside. Dalton and Fisher fought valiantly, but as the referee was distracted, Frankie used a weight to crush in Dalton's skull, opening the Dirty, Southern, and Sexy wrestler up. Despite his continued attempts to fight back, Andy Dalton ultimately fell victim to Frankie's G.T.S. (Go To School) and Fisher won the contest.
• The semi-main event featured the Tag Team Champions Regrub and "The Choice" Matt Andrews of Team Kyle facing off against Kristopher Haiden and a tag team partner of his choosing. Last show, Haiden had many words to say to Team Kyle, and GM Dolenz allowed Haiden to pick anyone he could find to take on the champs. Initially, it appeared that nobody had stepped up to be Haiden's partner, but from the Metroflex Gym entrance came "Center Stage" Danny Saint to answer the call. Although Haiden and Saint got the early advantage, Team Kyle regrouped and gained control, despite Gauge and Kyle Valo being ejected for interference. Eventually, Danny fought back and muscled up Regrub for a monstrous body slam and Haiden cleaned up after being tagged in. Andrews fell victim to his former teammate's vicious 12 Gauge Clothesline, and the champs suffered defeat. After the match, Haiden and Saint declared themselves next in line for a shot at the MPX Tag Team Championships.
• The main event of the evening was the second Pick Your Poison match, pitting MPX Champion Gregory James against "The Mind of Wrestling" JT LaMotta. James, showing the resources of a champion, adapted his usual high flying, rockstar style to a more subdued ground game to throw the more experienced LaMotta off. Both men exchanged lethal submissions and brawled outside, but eventually Frankie Fisher came out to try and distract his adversary. At one point as the referee tended to LaMotta, Frankie laid his hands on Greg and threw him back in the ring, violating the agreement laid down by Mike Dolenz. Although LaMotta appeared to be on the verge of victory several times, it was The Headbanger who finally emerged the winner, forcing the Indy Wrestling notable to tap out. Champion and challenger stared each other down after the match, increasing the tension.
• What will General Manager Dolenz do, now that Frankie has put his hands on the champ? How will Team Kyle respond to Haiden and Saint? What Tag Teams will be randomly paired together in the next round of the Prospect Champion tournament? Find out on February 11th, as Metroflex Gym again hosts MPX Wrestling Live!
